How do I get a custom wedding gown?
You are welcome to email me with your questions and I will respond as soon as possible,
or call and we can discuss your ideas over the phone. After that, you may choose to
make an appointment to further discuss your dress. For a consultation fee of $25.00
for the first hour, I will design a gown especially for you. Most brides have a good
idea of what they want and I happily give them just that. For those that need help
deciding, I am happy to give advice and direction without any pressure.
I'm sure that you will love the results, but there is no obligation until a design is
decided on and a deposit is put down on the gown.
Why get a custom gown?
There are many reasons to get a custom wedding gown. Doing so allows you to get a dress
that is completely unique and made to fit your body without the additional expense of
alterations. Perhaps you have tried on dresses and like elements of several gowns, but
haven't found something that is exactly what you want. Some brides enjoy being able to
participate in designing their dress rather than buying something from a shop. Some
brides want to add to their own family history by creating a treasured family heirloom
that can be passed down for generations. Whatever the reason, you are sure to be
thrilled with not only the finished product, but the process as well!
What is involved in a custom gown?
I employ the same methods and techniques used in top couture fashion houses around
the country. It starts with looking through styles you like (and don't)
as well as looking at fabric swatches, and making sure we are both on the same page. To
insure you are getting exactly the dress you want, I make a mock-up of the dress out of
cotton muslin. This allows us to play around with the style as well as ensuring you will
get the perfect fit from your perfect dress.
Once the design and fit are finalized, then the dress is re-made out of the fabrics of
your choice, with any embelishments you want. From start to finish, your dress is made by
me personally. Nothing is shipped overseas or contracted out to someone else. This method
allows you to have complete control over the finished product so you'll be sure to get the
dress you've always wanted. The whole process takes from 2-4 months, but rush orders can be
accommodated.
Where are you located?
I currently work out of my home studio. You are welcome to come to me, or I am able to
come to you, whatever your preference.
I already picked out my dress, but it needs alterations. Do you do bridal alterations/temple fills?
Absolutely! Check out my portfolio for some examples of my work.
How long do alterations take to complete?
Alterations are completed in three to four weeks. Rush orders can be finished in less than two weeks with a nominal rush fee.
Do you design bridesmaids' attire/mother of the bride gowns?
Yes. Each gown is custom made so they fit perfectly and look fantastic.
How many fittings are needed for a custom gown?
Most gowns require a measurement appointment, two to three fittings, and a pick-up appointment.
What is the price range of your wedding gowns?
Custom wedding gowns typically begin at $2000. The designs are limited only by your unique imagination. The price includes all labor, fabrics,
and materials to produce a couture custom designed and fitted gown, pressed with travel bag.
I will personally sit down with you to design your gown, choose your fabrics, and give you a written estimate.
I stand behind every dress I make and guarantee you will be happy with the design, quality and workmanship of your gown.
My grandmother/mother/aunt/neighbor/whoever sews. Couldn't I just save money and have her make my dress?
Of course you can, but more than likely you will not be totally pleased with the result. Wedding gowns take a huge degree of experience and skill in many areas of sewing that most people don't have. Even the most advanced seamstress is not always skilled in how to properly fit a garment. Not only do I know how to create the gown from sketch to finished product, I have years of experience with properly fitting a gown and continue to hone my skills. By choosing me, you can rest assured that I will not be satisfied until you are thrilled with your gown.
Where are you located?
I currently work out of my home studio in West Valley City, but can also come to you. This allows me to
keep costs lower because you are only paying for your dress and not my lease. Fittings are done by appointment only.
